Mathematical Thinking for GCSE work group

The aims of the National Curriculum are that students should become fluent in mathematics, should reason mathematically and should be able to solve problems.

This work group is an opportunity to get involved in some collaborative professional development that will support you in working with students in your school to build these reasoning and problem solving skills that can be so hard to pin down, and that are increasingly important in the new GCSE examinations.

Participants in the work group will come together to consider problem solving, to plan tasks that can be embedded in schemes of work, and to think about a pedagogy that supports students in building their mathematical thinking.

The work group is free to participants and launches on 8 November 2018, with 3 further sessions in December 2018, March and June 2019.  The work group will be hosted at Oldway School in the Conference Centre and led by Richard Perring, Secondary Mastery Lead for Cornwall and West Devon Maths Hub.
